Jason Heller, L.Ac.
“I am inspired by the process and application of integrating body and mind medicine, ultimately treating the whole person.”
Jason Heller co-founded and practices at the Shen Dao (Way of the Heart) Clinic in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He is a licensed practitioner who specializes in acupuncture, Tui Na, Craniosacral Therapy, therapeutic exercises and other modalities to improve the health and well-being of his patients.
Jason was born and raised in New York. He then attended Towson University (Maryland), competing on the mountain bike team and graduating with honors, completing a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. While there, he worked at adolescent, adult and geriatric inpatient psychiatric care facilities (including Sheppard Pratt Hospital in Baltimore).
He then moved to Arizona to continue his post graduate work at the Flagstaff Medical Center. He worked for 7 years in the behavioral health department of the Tucson Medical Center. During this time, he also became an ACE certified personal trainer, as well as a certified yoga instructor.
While in Tucson, he participated in an internship at the Andrew Weil Center of Integrative Medicine at University Medical Center. There he was introduced to integrative medicine, which focuses on body-mind healing, utilizing therapies from western and eastern traditions. The practice of acupuncture and Chinese medicine was a perfect complement to his health education background. In 2004, Jason enrolled in the Master’s program at the Arizona School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. During this time, he apprenticed with Dr. Vince Black, the founder of the North American Tang Shou Tao (NATSA) association. Studying under Dr. Black and his senior students, he developed a proficiency in an extensive curricula of medicine and martial arts at the Gong Fu (Kung Fu) school and Four Winds Clinic in Tucson.
In 2008, Jason and his then wife, Amara opened Shen Dao Clinic in Harrisonburg. Jason has been practicing there since, now as the sole provider. While he is not working in the clinic or teaching martial arts, Jason enjoys spending time with his two daughters and engaging in multiple outdoor activities, including hiking and bicycling in the Shenandoah Valley and playing hockey.
